Lasting Words of Comfort

Today´s blog will be the last that I write for the pandemic.
  • We are coming back together as a church, meeting on campus.
  • We are increasing weekly the opportunities to gather.
  • Moving back to our new “normal” demands more and more of my time.
Consequently, this will be my last, at least for this season of trial.  I hope and pray these short essays on the Scriptures have been helpful to you.  I personally thank the Lord for the guidance and encouragement He gave to me as I read, studied, and reflected on portions of His Word.

I close with two Scriptures, both on my favorites list for remembering when times are tough.  Both of them offer us reasons to not be afraid while walking through difficult days.

Psalm 27:1 NKJV
The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
  • I do not need to be afraid when trouble comes and I do not know what to do because The Lord is my light.  Through His Word, He lights the path I should walk one step at a time.  I cannot always see through the darkness of trouble, confusion, or conflict, but God can.  Whom shall I fear when I have the Lord lighting my way along the road of trials?

  • I do not need to be afraid when trouble comes and I cannot foresee how it all will end because The Lord is … my salvation.  I know ultimately where and how the end shall be for me.  I will be with the Lord.  I shall rule and reign with Christ in the Millennial Kingdom.  I shall live in the New Jerusalem with God, on the New Earth, surrounded by the New Heavens for all eternity! But I am comforted not only that the Lord is my ultimate salvation, but that He saves me while I live upon this earth from many a difficulty when I cannot save myself.  So no matter what, I have no one and nothing to fear.  Because of the Lord, Whom shall I fear?

  • I do not need to be afraid when trouble comes and I just don´t know if I can handle it, because the Lord is the strength of my life.  I may not feel like I can handle things, but God always can!  He is my source of strength, and He never runs low on power.  Because He is all-powerful, and He dwells within me as a believer, of whom shall I be afraid?
The second Scripture that always comforts me comes from the mouth of the Lord Jesus.
John 14:27 NKJV
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Trouble, trials, difficulties, and hard times certainly try to steal our peace, don´t they?  But the truth is, we do not have to let them!  If we will remember
  • He will light our way with His Word shining on our path.
  • He will rescue us, often in the here and now but always in the then and there.
  • God supplies our strength, so that when we are weak, He makes us strong.
If we are confident of these truths of His Word, we can both walk and rest in His peace.
