Psalm 119:33–40 NKJV
33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, And I shall keep it to the end. 34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. 35 Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it. 36 Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness. 37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way. 38 Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devoted to fearing You. 39 Turn away my reproach which I dread, For Your judgments are good. 40 Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness. There are many things parents hear so often that to hear them again is exasperating. (Read the following with a whine.)
There are also, hopefully more, things parents also hear that warm the heart and create memories to be treasured forever. (Now read these words with the soft tender voice of your child that has always been so special to you.)
Have you ever considered that there are things that God delights to hear from His children? I don´t think David was trying to “make points” with God when he prayed the words of the stanza of Psalm 119 we just read, but I do think he prayed eight things that delighted God. David probably offered these pleas to the Lord out of the deep need he expressed in the previous eight verses. A broken heart is more apt to utter words pleasing to God than one tainted with pride or self-sufficiency. Think about these pleas that went into God´s treasure house of memories of things David said to Him.
So, before I wrote another sentence, I spent some time saying these things to Him. Do you think the Lord might like to hear the same from you?
