Kidz Choir
August 2019/ Doug White
Do any of you feel like this year is flying by…except for contractors, insurance, and work crews which seem to be progressing at a snail’s pace? I think many of us are on the same page here!
Unbelievably, in just a few days school begins again and starts the Fall schedule – maybe even some cooler weather!

We are very excited to announce the bringing back of a ministry that has been put on hold since hurricane Michael.
Trumpet fanfare please… KIDZ CHOIR kicks off Sunday, September 8, at 5:00 pm in the Kid Zone building!!! This will be a very special year as we begin this ministry again! We need additional helpers to love on our children and share Jesus with them, worship, discipleship and fun each week through music and activities. If you are interested in serving on the Kidz Choir Leader Team ~ please call me or Malissa in the church office this week. It’s gonna be great and I can’t wait to see our Kidz lifting high the name of Jesus in classes and in worship!
Coming in our next Life @ St. Andrew ~ A VERY SPECIAL DAY of WORSHIP – coming soon featuring the combined leadership of the SABC Worship Band, Celebration Choir and Orchestra!

A Heart of Worship

SINCE we wrote last …
… We spent three high energy days sharing Jesus and Christian principles through music and motions for our 2019 VBS “In The Wild!” Please join me in thanking God for the wonderful leadership on the VBS Music team. Every leader was prepared, led with enthusiasm and love! They made it fun and the classes were the best ever with all participating well this year!
… We celebrated God & Country Day in the 10:30am Worship hour on June 30th! We thanked God for our country and sang prayers to Him to heal our land and to send revival to America. We sang and thanked God for those who have served and are serving in our military. We presented a challenging message in music that across the fruited plain for America to stand and bless God for His goodness, for His faithfulness as by His hand our nation stands!
… We ended our summer time singers in choir from the college group known as Kaleo. This group from Oklahoma comes to Panama City each summer, taking up employment of various kinds and entering our workforce as a witness for Christ. They attend our church and plugged into serving as well. What an encouragement they have been. That said – we now have space for many of you to step in and get involved! With us on the rebuild from the hurricane, now is the best time to get involved. We’ve just started working on an exciting new worship song for August called “Is He Worthy?”, and it will move your heart. It’s gonna be great! So please join us and add your voice to the mix and worship!
… Coming up, we will be trusting God and gearing up for the Fall and one new thing we will add back to our schedule is Kidz Choirs! It will be fun, we will learn much and praise God together! We will have more to say about that in the next Life @ St. Andrew publication. Pray about plugging in to let God use you to share the love of Jesus through music and lead our little people to praise Him!
SABC is an exciting place and it’s because together we are serving our amazing, loving, giving, and coming Lord!
See you this Wednesday in Choir & this Sunday in Worship!

Praise in the storm
June 2019/Doug White
None of us were really ready for what would happen on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Sheila and I left on vacation on Monday of that week to visit a dear friend who had been fighting cancer. Cynthia and Taiwo would care for the house with what looked to be at that time an approaching 35 mph tropical storm. We watched from Tennessee as the storm began to build, stayed in contact with our family and prayed. Miraculously, the phone lines stayed usable before, during and after the storm – enough to know how bad it was, but also that our kids were safe. Thanking God and rejoicing in their safety, we returned to PC to assess the damage and begin the process of first things post-hurricane.
Our church met in the bell tower parking lot the following Sunday. The worship was emotional but riveted to dependency on and confidence in our great God. Some familiar lines in songs were now hard to sing – “whatever may pass and whatever lies before me… let me be singing...Bless the Lord O my soul”. And another week – “Through it all, my eyes are on You … it is well … so let go my soul and trust in Him – the wind and waves still know His name…”
I, along with the faithful Worship Band, continued to lead Sunday worship from that point on in the student center gym. The worship came from our souls to God – and it still does. And we even progressed to being able to offer two times with two styles of worship to the same majestic, amazing, comforting, providing God. We are still in the student center gym. We are still praising God and declaring our dependency on Him.
CHRISTMAS
With the givens and an easily granted pass to forgo any attempt at any presentations, our music ministry had the shared conviction of still providing the two nights of Christmas Celebration we had planned for our now hurting community. The faithfulness of the Celebration Choir and Orchestra paid off and provided these two nights, Dec. 10th & 11th. And once again, I was so proud and thankful for our music ministry and church to be used of God to touch hearts with the joy of Jesus. Many that attended remarked how much it meant to them and that our church would provide such a gift.
PASSION PLAY
In January, our church family for the past 15 years has been accustomed to beginning prep for The Panama City Passion Play. The Civic Center was hit hard by the hurricane. Our people were at varying stages of rebuild and relocation. Pastor Mike and I agreed we wanted to be sensitive to this. Knowing we could not do a full-fledged Passion Play as we knew it, we began to pray and think of alternatives and seek God’s will concerning doing a less involved but significant Easter presentation. And where would we do it?
Again, it was with the conviction and belief that our present post-hurricane community had hurting and open hearts that needed to hear the story of Jesus. So, we shortened the presentation and rewrote the script, magnifying the message of hope found in Jesus. Once again, our SABC Choir, Orchestra, a four-person drama team, and directors were faithful and worked hard. With joy, we were able to provide “Hope Has A Name” – one night in our Student Center Gym and one night at Arnold High School. So many remarked how it touched their hearts and lives. God does that, doesn’t He!
UPCOMING THIS SUMMER
On June 30th, in the Choir Led Worship Service, we will be celebrating God & Country Day. This is a day we pour out our hearts in gratitude for the blessings God has given us as well as declaring our dependency on Him as we move forward as a nation. We would love to have you join us in singing on this special day. We have CD’s available with all the music we plan to do. You will recognize most of the songs. One new one entitled “America Bless God” is a call and cry for our land to return to bringing God praise through the things we do as we trumpet His faithfulness. You can see me or any of our choir to get in on being a part of this very special day.
UPCOMING THIS FALL
In September we are projecting and planning for the return of our Kidz Choir program on Sunday nights. It will be an exciting time as we begin again to teach our children about God, worship, and Jesus through music and fun activities! If you have an interest in helping us share God’s love with our little ones through music, please see me, email me or call the church office. It’s going to be a great time for our Kidz!
FINAL WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Many of us still find ourselves battling insurance companies, contractors and work crews with the rebuilding of our homes and lives. So much still needs to be done. Some of us have been relocated, live in trailers or in houses under construction. It is easy to feel discouraged and depressed over the timeline and lack of progress we see each day. Yet, we know our God is bigger and will see us through all of this. My prayer each day is for the Lord to keep my eyes on Him, His resources, His timing, His plan. When I choose to pray that prayer, God changes my outlook. I have been able to find hope for the day. I can sing and worship Him – He is worthy – He is in control. He will provide. He’s Big Enough!
Hope to see you Sunday as we worship our Big Enough God!
