Kid Zone Live will actually be “Live” beginning this Sunday, June 28, in the Kid Zone!
June 2020/Karen Claunch
We are excited to welcome kids back to KZL (finished Kindergarten - 6th grade)! The KZL session will begin at 11:00, so please plan to arrive by 10:45 to check your child in before going to the 11:00 worship service.
Before you arrive, our facility will have been sanitized and ready for your children.
This is what you can expect when you arrive:
Partnering Together: We are taking seriously the health and safety of children, and we feel good about the plans that are in place. However, we ask that you partner with us in understanding that with children of multiple ages no amount of preparation can guarantee perfect social distancing.
Please Note: If you are not ready to have your children on campus, the Explore the Bible materials for younger and older children are still available on our website: sabc.org. The Explore the Bible “On Location Video” is also on that site. We look forward to having your children back with us in the future!
Before you arrive, our facility will have been sanitized and ready for your children.
This is what you can expect when you arrive:
- Smiling faces to greet you!
- Check In: One parent should handle check-in and should then walk their child to the KZL room.
- Health Check: Temperature will be checked with a no touch thermometer (No child should attend who has had fever in the past 24 hours).
- Hand Cleanliness: Each child will wash their hands and be given hand sanitizer as they enter the room.
- Exiting: Parents need to exit through the back door of the KZ. There is a covered walkway that you can follow to the gym for worship (There will be signs to direct you).
- Social Distancing: Chairs will be set up so children can social distance. However, siblings may sit together. Games and activities will be planned so social distancing is possible.
- Check Out: Each parent will pick up from the 3rd door of the KZL room and exit with their child through the same door you used previously.

This is an Exciting Season in the Kid Zone!
August 2019/Karen Claunch
This is an exciting season in the Kid Zone!
We’ve had a great summer with our “In the Wild” VBS, our exciting Centrikid Camp, our skating party, and with our preteens serving as teachers in VBS at the Baptist Center. And, throughout the summer KZ 9:00 classes and KZL worship has offered solid biblical teaching. You gotta love it!
Now we are “Gearing Up” for a new year that we believe will be our best!
On Sunday, August 18th, kids will move up to their new Kid Zone classes at 9:00 and at 10:30 they will enjoy KZL with our new Foot Praise Team and our new “Gear Up” stage in place!
Kids can also look forward to having:
And Coming Soon…
Book 66 will begin again on Wednesday, September 11th, from 6:00-7:15!
Plus…4th,5th, and 6th graders can look forward to “Book 66 Late Night” on Friday September 13!
We love partnering with parents!
Parents who teach in the Kid Zone get to make a lasting investment in their own children and get to impact the generation to come! Won’t you join us? Together we are: “Telling the generation to come the praises of the Lord…that they may set their hope in God. Ps 78:4 & 7

Kids and screen time!
July 2019/Karen Claunch
This is the hot topic that every parent is addressing! The average American child age 8 – 18 spends more than 7 hours a day looking at screens! This includes viewing a video game, a computer, a cell phone, and a TV. Wow! Remember when a cell phone was “just” a phone? Oh how quickly things change! Now when a child has any device with internet capability, their world and yours has changed! Like most things, there are good things that are offered through screen resources, but the dangers are very real and the job of parenting has taken on a huge new responsibility.
I remember as a college student teaching in a daycare one summer. We were taught that if a child is a biter that every time they bite it brings such pleasure that they desperately want to bite again! Now they tell us that video games are designed to bring pleasure to the brain! According to Dr. Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane in their book: Growing Up Social: Raising Relational Kids in a Screen-Driven World, with each video gaming success, kids are hit with a squirt of dopamine that gives a feeling of euphoria. So naturally the more a child plays, the more he or she wants to play! This book is a great resource. It even includes a ten question quiz to help you discern if your child has too much screen time.
In her blog post Creating Screen Time Rules for your Children Christina Fox gives eight great screen time rules to follow:
Go to this link to get more details about these suggested rules: https://www.sabc.org/children.html It’s a worthwhile read!
Most of all, your kids need you to set the standard and serve as godly role models in all things technology! Colossians 3:2-3 says “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

- Know what games and apps your children are using.
- Keep the computer and devices in a public place.
- Have older children turn in their phones at the end of the day.
- Consider taking a break.
- Use child protection software.
- Include rules for what is expected of them at someone else’s house.
- Create an agreement that everyone signs.

VBS "In The Wild"
June 2019/Karen Claunch
OUR "IN THE WILD" VBS ADVENTURE IS JUNE 9TH-11TH, 6-8:30PM
Yes! We do have a rainy day plan. Everything is still on, rain or shine! This is such an exciting opportunity for us to reach out to our community! When Katie (an IMB missionary from our church) was 11 years old, someone invited her to VBS. And that is when she became a follower of Jesus! God still uses VBS in mighty ways!
Think about this…VBS:
• Connects kids with Jesus
• Connects kids with the Bible
• Connects kids with real life vs. the virtual world
• Connects kids with Godly role models
• Connects teens with service
• Connects 4 generations in our church family
Recent research shows 69% of American parents say they would encourage their child to go to VBS if they were personally invited! That’s where we come in! Let’s all be busy offering personal invitations! Invite cards are available at church!
And how cool is this?
• On June 9, from 4 – 6, we have a Safari Kick-Off Event with inflatables, games & food!
• During VBS we also have marriage and parenting seminars!
• If your kids are active members of St. Andrew, they are already enrolled!
